The Island Sun tanning salon, which was in business for over four years, closed during the first week of August. The space at 3016 78th Ave. S.E. is currently vacant, and at least one person has filed a permit for a new business. A sign posted on the door by owners Kirk and Jessie Robinson directs customers who have scheduled tans remaining to any of the 19 Seattle Sun Tan locations. The closest salons are in Factoria and Bellevue, at 3710 Factoria Square Mall, and 10708 Main Street, Bellevue.

The Hands of the Hills wholesale showroom continues to operate behind the former Island Sun space, with entrance through the back alley, and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
