After a five-year absence from Mercer Island, the Seven Star Restaurant and Lounge is back in its old location at 2885 78th Ave. S.E.
Family-owned by Xin Lin Li and his wife, Xiuling Yuan, the restaurant comfortably seats 60 to 70 patrons. The couple’s daughter, Amy Li, also works at the Seven Star.
Li received his culinary training in China, then worked in a Five-Star Hotel in Beijing before moving to the United States about 20 years ago. Since leaving Mercer Island five years ago, the family has also opened another restaurant called the Beijing Pavilion in Bothell.
Amy said when the lease ran out for the former tenant, they were eager to get back to Mercer Island, so they got their old space back.
“We missed the customers, the nice clean neighborhood,” Amy said. “We like the people, and they like us.”
Seven Star is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. There is a special lunch menu, Monday through Friday; on the weekend, patrons order from the dinner menu.
