Mercer Islander’s religious jewelry collection online
Amen Jewelry, founded by Lisa Novak of Mercer Island, has launched its retail Web site.
The jewelry company aims to combine commerce and charity, and has pledged to give 10 percent of each sale to organizations that assist those in need in the community.
Amen Jewelry sells unique handcrafted items, locally sourced as much as possible, often founded in religious iconography. The current collection includes earrings, rings, necklaces and pendants suitable for women, men and children. Cast in gold, silver and bronze, some of the pieces also feature semi-precious and precious stones.
Much of the Amen Jewelry collection grew from the inspiration of family members and friends. When it came time for her son’s first communion, Novak realized how hard it is to find jewelry for boys, so she designed a simple cross a young boy would want to wear. The girl’s “Teensy” cross was inspired by Novak wanting to find the right design for her young daughter.
The organization that will receive the first donation from Amen Jewelry sales is Christ Our Hope Catholic Church’s fund for the poor and needy. Based in downtown Seattle, the church has active outreach and social services programs that help the poor, homeless and chronically unemployed.
