Island Broiler to open in former Alpenland space

In four weeks the Island Broiler will take over the former Alpenland location. Alpenland first opened in 1974 and closed for good earlier this year.

The new restaurant is expected to open during the week of Oct. 20 after construction is completed. The interior has been fully gutted and brand new equipment has been installed.

On the menu will be Vietnamese-style grilled dishes, hamburgers, sandwiches, pho, rice dishes, vegetarian rice dishes, rice vermicelli and various appetizers. The recipes are owner Bruce Le’s family recipes.

The new business is owned by Le and his wife, Thuy Tran. The couple resides in Seattle and has two young children. Island Broiler is Le’s second restaurant. Le helped his father-in-law, Phuc Tran, open a restaurant, Le’s Teriyaki, in Spokane.

“We operate a family business,” Le said.

When his father-in-law immigrated to America, Le said, the family started doing cooking for restaurants of various cuisines.

The Island Broiler will have a full bar. A ‘Game Day’ menu will be offered with discounts during special events.

A grand opening celebration is being planned, and the first 100 customers will receive a $50 gift basket.
