St. Monica Parish is holding a bicycle drive for Bicycles for Humanity Seattle (B4H Seattle) this weekend from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 22. Other Seattle area churches are doing the same. Bicycles will be shipped to the KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa, where they will be distributed to villagers through St. Gabriel’s church in Mtubatuba.
Recipients include South African schoolchildren, health care workers who travel to distant villages, and the unemployed.
B4H Seattle, a nonprofit organization, has set a goal of collecting 500 bikes to ship later this month or in early September. B4H Seattle accepts any working bicycles but prefers sturdy mountain bikes. Donations are tax-deductible.
St. Monica is located at 4301 88th Ave. S.E. on Mercer Island.
