Mercer Island firefighters took in $7,382 from the community during the Fill the Boot campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in July.

Mercer Island firefighter Tom Guttu described the event as the most successful Fill the Boot that Mercer Island has participated in. He wrote in an e-mail to the Reporter, "We have the challenge of being a small fire department with limited personnel for events like this. However, we seem to raise a large sum of money with great support from this community."

The amount raised last year was $6,475.
