Got too many old soccer balls rolling around the garage? Islander Mike Wandell and Albertsons are collecting balls to be sent to South Africa where real soccer balls are in short supply. The project is the brainchild of Wandell who traveled to Africa for the World Cup. He saw that children there played with balls made with plastic bags and twine. The story was featured in the Sept. 1 issue of the 98040 magazine.
