The Mercer Island High School bands are hosting a Can-a-Thon this Saturday, April 16, to collect food for the Mercer Island Youth and Family Services Food Pantry.

Students will be going around the Island, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning, picking up food left outside of people’s front doors. Food can also be donated at Albertsons from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The students hope to collect more than 5,000 cans of food and nonperishable items.

The food pantry especially needs shelf-stable milk products, snack puddings, canned tuna and chicken, canned fruit, hearty soups, pastas, rice and tomato sauces.
