Islander Middle School sent seven students to the Washington State Math Championship tournament in Blaine, Wash., on May 7. More than 250 teams, with students in grades 5-8, competed.

The eighth grade team earned fourth place and had students in both seventh and eighth grades, including Carlin Chuck, Dhruv Malik, Dylan Ma and Jasper Hugunin.

The seventh grade team had students in both sixth and seventh grades, including Raunak Shah, Katrina Kearsley and Arjun Mokha.

The students each competed in six different types of tests; an individual 30-question test, mental math and team tests in algebra, geometry, probability and a miscellaneous category called potpourri.
