Four students from Mercer Island High School were honored by the Mercer Island Lion’s Club and received recognition as being the ‘Outstanding Student’ for their grade.

The purpose of the Mercer Island Lions Club Student Awards is to recognize students who have been uniquely active in the community and have volunteered their time to help others. This type of community involvement is in line with the core values of the Lions Club to serve and help those in our community who don’t necessarily have the resources to help themselves. Traditionally, the Lions Club has been dedicated to the causes of blindness and deafness, but also support Youth and Family Services, the Boys and Girls Club, and other local organizations.

Each student receives $500, a personal plaque, and his or her name is engraved on a large plaque at the high school.

The winners this year are as follows: senior Briauna Azer (parents Ashraf and Kate), junior Dylan Sullivan (parents Sam and Lucy), sophomore Kaya McRuer (parents Bob McRuer and Lucy Sullivan) and freshman Sara Lindquist (parents Tom and Juli Lindquist).
