Mercer Island grads

Islanders Gabrielle Bird-Vogel, Michael Fletcher, Chris Fieldfine and Patrick Opie all graduated from Seattle Preparatory School in Seattle on June 3.

Karen Dahl, a Mercer Island resident, has been named one of 19 valedictorians at Holy Names Academy in Seattle. She will be attending the University of Washington in the fall.

Sara Ramsay, of the Mercer Island High School class of 2007, graduated from Colby College with Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude honors, and distinction in French and Sociology.

Mercer Island High School senior Grayson Roze will be attending Swarthmore (in Pennsylvania) next fall, where he will play NCAA Division III lacrosse. Roze played lacrosse with Seattle Starz for four years and MIHS for three years. He also hopes to continue his decade-long passion for the drums while majoring in Economics at Swarthmore.

Nils Kjos, who attends Lakeside School, was named a National Merit scholar.

Ishani Grover, of Mercer Island, graduated from St. Mary's College of Maryland in St. Mary's City with a major in religious studies. Grover also earned a minor in women, gender and sexuality studies.

Andy Wingerson, a MIHS class of 2011 valedictorian, will attend Yale and intends to study math, science, and economics and will swim for the Yale swim team. Wingerson is one of five valedictorians for the MIHS class of 2011.

Jeremy Larus of Mercer Island graduated from Rice University in Houston on May 14 with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry.

Rachel Wold received her Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College, cum laude with honors, in her international studies major on May 22 in Middlebury, Vermont. Wold is the daughter of Andy and Kathie Wold.

Joseph Balinbin graduated from the University of Portland in May with a bachelor’s degree in theology at the University of Portland campus.

Eric Lavine of Mercer Island earned a degree at Skidmore College.

Islander Larken Yackulic, a graduate of Seattle Academy, received a bachelor of arts degree, cum laude in sociology from The College of Wooster during commencement exercises on May 16.

Jamie Schwartz and Shmuel Trieger were named Class of 2011 Valedictorians at Northwest Yeshiva High School.
