When extreme weather is expected, Mercer Island School District personnel monitor forecasts and conditions on the roadways well ahead of the anticipated arrival of a storm.

School officials will close school or delay start times to ensure safety for students and employees.

Decisions for a late start or closure are made by the superintendent no later than 5:30 a.m. and are made available to area radio and television stations.
