Rotary Islanders of February

Mercer Island Rotary has named seniors Rachel Bowdle and Kendall Fagan as the Islanders of the month for February.

Bowdle is the 2011-12 most valuable player of the MIHS varsity volleyball team. She is also a member of the Senior Service Club and MIHS band, playing in the wind ensemble, percussion ensemble and marching band drum line. In the community she volunteers with V.O.I.C.E. during the summer. The daughter of Andrew Bowdle and Debra Wechter, she plans to enroll at a four-year college or university and is considering a future career in the medical field.

Fagan, who founded HelpEduc8 to raise money for charity, is involved with multiple clubs at MIHS, including: the Outdoors Club, Climbing Club, International Club, Running Club, Cycling Club and Senior Service Club. He is also a cross country team captain, marching band section leader, and runs track and field. He sometimes volunteers for the Safe Rides program and is a Natural Helper. The son of Corey Fagan and Kim Kendall, he also has a tutoring business and does freelance web design. Next fall he plans to attend Stanford University, where he intends to get involved in the Technology Ventures Program, a mix of engineering, technology and social entrepreneurship.
