Mercer Island students compete in math tournament

Mercer Island residents, fifth-grader R. Grady Short and fourth-grader Thomas Short, recently competed in the Math Is Cool Masters Tournament on May 19, with their fourth and fifth grade teams from Seattle Country Day School.
Grady Short's fifth-grade team won second place in the Elite division, and Thomas Short's fourth-grade team won first place in Division 1 at the math competition in Moses Lake.
The four-person teams tackled over 100 problems in six different events, with 94 other teams from all over the state.
