City receives grant to preserve Luther Burbank Park

The City of Mercer Island has received a $10,000 grant to help preserve portions of Luther Burbank Park.

The money will be used to remove invasive trees that are preventing volunteers from restoring and replanting portions of the western buffer of the wetland in Luther Burbank Park.

The city hopes restoring the wetland and the buffer will help preserve and enhance an area that is crucial for wildlife.

The money comes from King County’s Wild Places in City Places grant program. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department, along with Mountains to Sound Greenway and Friends of Luther Burbank, was awarded the funds this spring.
