Mercer Island middle school students, participating this summer in the Summer Volunteer Program with Youth and Family Services, collected food donations for the Mercer Island Food Pantry.
On Tuesday, July 24 four Islander Middle School students held a mini-food drive with Tambi Cork, the SVP Youth Development Coordinator and Sydney Lopes the Project Leader in Training. Miles Alderman, David Sims, Sam Rosenstein and Cole Hendrickson participated in the event.
The students learned about how to set up and conduct a food drive, while also seeing how the food is stored and handed out.
SVP is a part of the YFS VOICE (Volunteers Outreach in Communities Everywhere) program created for middle school aged students.
Over the last several year, over 300 youth from Mercer Island have participated in the program.
