At a congregational meeting on Aug. 19, members of the Mercer Island Covenant Church voted to extend a call to Peter Sung to become the lead pastor. This vote was the culmination of a nine-month effort by the church’s pastoral search team.
Sung emigrated as a child from Korea to New York City in 1981. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and received his Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Sung and his wife, Susie, have four daughters.
Sung’s Covenant Church experience includes planting and pastoring six new churches, becoming the Director of Church Planting for the Covenant’s East Coast Conference, and eventually the Director of Church Planting for the Covenant denomination.
“Pastor Sung is a gifted preacher and brings fresh insight into Bible passages with his teaching,” said church member Donna Palmberg.
Sung will begin preaching on Oct. 7. The public is invited. Mercer Island Covenant Church is located at 3200 78th Avenue S.E.
More information can be found on the church’s website at www.micc.org.
