Mercer Island Boy Scout Troop 457 celebrates 60 years

Scoutmasters from Mercer Island's Boy Scout Troop 457 gathered on Tuesday, Nov. 13 to celebrate 60 years of Scouting on the Island. Former Scoutmasters who attended the event included: Dana Melick (present), Jeff Peterson (2010-2012), Ret. Admiral Jeff Garrett (2008-2010), Karl Forsggard (2006-2008), Dr. Bob Herr (2004-2006), Phil Deflise (2002-2004), Dr. Gordon Naylor (1995-2002) and Dr. John Dunne (1991-1995).

Present and former members of Mercer Island's Boy Scout Troop 457 gathered on Tuesday, Nov. 13, to celebrate 60 years.

The troop was charted in 1952 and was originally supported by the South Mercer Island Club until 1964, when Emmanuel Episcopal Church took over as the sponsor for the troop.

During the celebration, Scoutmasters from the last 25 years gathered, and 1966 Eagle Scout Jim Frenzal spoke about his experience on the Island and as a member of the Scouts in the 1960s.

Over 70 Scouts and former Scouts, along with their families, attended the event.

Current Scout members made peach cobblers, in dutch ovens, to go with the dinner.
