Malcolm Davis earns scholarship

November 27, 2012 · 2:55 PM

Malcolm Davis, formerly of Mercer Island, has earned the Ho’omau I Ka Po’okela (Continuing With Excellence) Scholarship for his seventh grade year at Hawaii Preparatory Academy, where he attends school on the Big Island of Hawaii.

The merit scholarship is  awarded to qualifying students with academic potential, as demonstrated by their Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) results. Along with an essay, applicants were required to attain a score of 2080 for the SSAT to be considered for the scholarship program. Davis was the only student to achieve this score.

“I felt very proud,” Davis said. “It was hard to believe I won because there are so many smart kids at HPA, and I didn’t expect to be chosen.”

Davis grew up on the Island and attended West Mercer Elementary School. His grandfather, Dick Footh, still lives here.
