Now that the holiday season is over, many Mercer Island residents have a tree that can be recycled on Mercer Island.

Residents can have their tree turned into chips at the City Maintenance Shop through Jan. 13. Trees can be chipped only for Mercer Island residents, during daylight hours. The chips will be used for city parks and other open spaces.

All trees need to be free of ornaments, and flocked or artificial trees will not be accepted.

Customers who have yard debris can set out trees on their regularly scheduled collection day. Trees should be free of flocking, ornaments and metal hangers, and need to be cut into four-foot lengths.

To learn more, contact the City's Maintenance Department at (206) 275-7608.
