The Mercer Island Parks & Recreation Department is now fundraising for the 2013 year of programs and events, including the annual Summer Celebration fireworks.

According to the department, $28,000 is needed to help fund things like Mostly Music in the Park, Summer Celebration, parks equipment and the fireworks.

"We are also holding a special fundraising effort this year for the Summer Celebration Firework Celebration," said the department in a press release. "We need to raise $28,000 for this traditional community evening at Luther Burbank Park. If we do not have the majority of the funding raised by March 1, 2013, the fireworks evening will unfortunately be canceled."
