The 30th annual Mercer Island Fine Arts Showcase will take place next week.

The event runs Wednesday, March 27, and Thursday, March 28, this year with the theme “Arti Gras” at Mercer Island High School.

The event highlights the wide variety of creative talent in Mercer Island schools, and is a fundraiser for arts programs in the school district.

The MIHS Performing Arts Center and commons area will be filled with displays of student artwork, ranging from photos to drawings.

Inside the PAC, musical performances will be held each night.

On Wednesday night, the Mercer Island Visual Arts League, Islander Middle School, MIHS Art Clubs and MIHS Art Honor Society will provide hands-on activities for kids.

Thursday night will feature musical performances — one at 6:30 p.m. and a second at 8:15 p.m. — and will include district music groups.

Adult tickets for the event are $10 prior to Showcase, and $15 at the door. Admission for children is free.

The Mercer Island Fine Arts Committee is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting K-12 fine arts in Mercer Island schools.

The board of directors is all volunteers. The committee raises money in the community to help support various programs in the school. Elementary art teacher Tracy Davis’s position is funded by contributions from the Showcase and Fine Arts Committee.
