Rand Ginn honored with Flash Family Inspirational Award
Rand Ginn is the 2013 recipient of The Flash Family Inspirational Award. Phil Flash was a longtime Mercer Island resident and artist who, with his family, established this award in 2008 to “honor a Mercer Island senior adult who exemplifies the spirit of good sportsmanship or community leadership and who possesses an optimistic attitude and friendly demeanor while acting as a role model to others.”
Ginn is receiving the award for the exemplary service and positive attitude that he brings to the Mercer Island community. Throughout his 35 years as an Island resident, Ginn has worked on campaigns, levies, the Historical Society, the School Board and a host of other community boards. Ginn has a quiet, gentle, reliable, ‘can do,’ professional and straightforward demeanor that enhances his effectiveness with groups and organizations. He is selfless in using his business and financial expertise to serve the community.
“Community work makes you feel real good,” Ginn is quoted as saying in a 2008 newspaper story.
In addition to his local work, Ginn jumps in when other important community causes or needs come to his attention. He has worked with the Ten Thousand Villages sale of international goods at fair market prices for Third World artisans, helped to bring the African Children’s Choir to the Island, contributed to Habitat for Humanity efforts and can even be found sorting food donations at First Harvest. Ginn also extends his community giving to international causes with the Mercer Island Rotary.
"In all aspects of his life, Ginn embodies the spirit of service to community," YFS director Cindy Goodwin said. "The benefits from his service will live on in our community, as will his name on the Flash Family Inspirational Award Trophy plaque located at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center. We thank him."
