Firefighters invite community to fill the boot next week
Firefighters will be asking Mercer Islanders to fill the boot on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The annual Fill the Boot Campaign put on by the Mercer Island Firefighters Local 1762 will take place between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Holding boots in hand, firefighters will be accepting donations at the intersections of S.E. 40th Street and Island Crest Way, and 77th Ave. S.E. and S.E. 27th Street.
"Mercer Island Firefighters Local 1762 has a reputation of raising the most money per firefighter, per hour over all other fire organizations in our region," firefighter Tommy Guttu stated. "We proudly support raising funds for Muscular Dystrophy and have had much success with the contributions of our citizens. We would like to say thank you again for raising close to $7,000 last year. Our goal this year is to raise the bar even higher."
