Mercer Island celebrates Earth Day with its third annual Leap for Green this Saturday, April 24. With past attendance averaging 1,000 and up to 2,000 attendees expected this weekend, the event will feature children’s entertainer Alleyoop, a visit from the Reptile Man, hula-hooping, recycled arts and crafts, a mini farmers market, a

nature walk through Luther Burbank Park, electric

bikes and vehicles, as well as live music and food. The nature walk, or wetland tour, will be led by Friends of Luther Burbank Park at 2 p.m., and participants will leave from the Community Center at Mercer View. Open to children of all ages, the event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the CCMV. The city encourages attendees to ride bikes or walk to the event — those who do so can check in with the Green Ribbon Commission “You Powered” booth to be eligible for prizes. Nonperishable food item donations for the Mercer Island Food Pantry will also be accepted at the event.
