A concert tonight in Bellevue will raise funds to help people affected by flooding and mudslides last month January in Brazil.

The slides devastated several cities in the mountainous interior of the state of Rio de Janeiro, killing nearly 900 people, destroying homes and businesses, displacing nearly 3,000 residents, and disrupting power, water, communication, and transportation systems throughout the country.

The aim of the concert is to send a message of support and compassion and to light up a wintry Northwest Washington evening with the sights and rhythms of Brazil.

The event will be from 7-11 p.m. at Music Works Northwest, 14360 SE Eastgate Way, Suite 102.

Performances are planned by Eduardo Mendonça and Show Brazil!; VamoLa; Jovino Santos Neto; ZumZumZum; Dora Oliveira; and ICAF – International Capoeira Angola.

Donations will be accepted at the door, online, or through mail. The contributions deadline is Feb. 28 and it is tax deductible.

Donations may be made through PayPal: helprio@brazilcenter.org or by mail to Help Rio! Brazil Center, P.O. BOX 58652 Renton, WA 98058-1652.
