Bellevue College exhibit will feature three Northwest sculptors

 

“Sculpt: Reveal,” an exhibit of figurative works by Pacific Northwest artists Paul Metivier, Wade Pose and Sabah Al-Dhaher opens April 6, at Bellevue College’s Gallery Space.

A public reception for the artists will be held from 4-8 p.m. in the Gallery, which is located in Room 271 of Building D, off the south courtyard of the Bellevue College campus.

The exhibit will run through April 29.

Both the exhibit and reception are open to the public free of charge.

Working primarily in terra cotta clay, ceramic artist Metivier builds life-size human busts, figureheads and caricatures. By carving the clay first when it is wet and again later when it is leather-hard and bone-dry, he creates a surface with the appearance of decayed wood, which he typically finishes with a mix of stains and raw clay.

Ceramic artist Pose will be exhibiting his “Human Vessels” series, consisting of six sculptures created as an exploration into the concept of the human body as a vessel in relation to humanity. The theme matures as the viewer progresses from one piece to the next, further engaging viewers in their personal interpretations of the works.

Stone sculptor Al-Dhaher will exhibit a collection of sculptures carved in marble, limestone and basalt from his "Labyrinth to Joy" series.

Contrasting highly polished areas with masses of roughly finished stone, Al-Dhaher pulls from it supple forms, allowing the natural texture and tones of the medium to suggest his subject’s life beneath the surface.
