Notes to the editor about 41st district candidates | Letters

Voters express their opinions on candidates Tana Senn and Steve Litzow.

Privileged to have Senn in state House

We have been privileged to have Tana Senn as our representative in the state House in Olympia. Her commitment to work for us on important issues including education, transportation and successfully championing her bill on equal pay through the state House has shown her to be an extraordinary representative who deserves our vote for reelection. She understands how budgetary issues impact the social concerns that keep Washington moving in the right direction. When we are fortunate enough to have such an outstanding candidate for public office, it is our privilege to reelect Tana as our representative.

As a superb complement to Tana in the House, we heartily endorse Lisa Wellman as our representative in the Senate.

Litzow does not represent his constituents

It is time for a change. Steve Litzow no longer serves our needs, his actual constituents. He does not work collaboratively to solve education funding problems, his primary duty, while bragging to us about the Legislature’s increased education funding, a small fraction of what should be done. He has single-handedly forced key funding issues off into the future. On the other hand, he leaped into immediately solving the charter school funding problems to court favor with its well-funded lobby.

Where was Litzow when we were getting threatened with tolls on I-90? Why is he not fighting for increasing the minimum wage? How long do we have to wait for him to work for what his constituents want?

One has to wonder who he sees himself representing. Whoever it is, it is someone other than us. It is past time for a change. Vote for Lisa Wellman.

Litzow looking out for our students’ future

When Washingtonians asked for a high quality education system, Sen. Steve Litzow answered. As our voice in Olympia, Steve led the charge on investing $4.5 billion in public schools – the largest increase in state history. Steve worked with Democrats and Republicans to give teachers their first pay raise in seven years. Steve Litzow is looking out for our future by looking out for our students. I firmly support Steve this fall.

Litzow pulls worst political tricks

Recently, I have become quite disillusioned with Sen. Steve Litzow.

While online a few days ago, I saw ads for his re-election campaign that touted working with Reps. Tana Senn and Judy Clibborn. On the surface, this appears to be an endorsement from our representatives. However, both Senn and Clibborn have explicitly endorsed and campaigned for Lisa Wellman to be our next state senator. The actions of Sen. Litzow are nothing short of the worst tricks a politician can pull.

I have also seen new door hangers that claim that Litzow is a “progressive” on education. Yet, in the state Senate, he has constantly stopped bi-partisan bills that would fully fund education. He has refused to let these bills come to a debate, let alone a vote, in his committee. He has also proposed a bill that would take money raised from the levies that we here at home have voted for that would fund our schools and redistribute the money across the entire state. I think it is quite telling that not a single elected school board member in the 41st District has endorsed his re-election campaign.

I hope that Litzow issues an apology to our representatives for using their images without permission and in a deceiving manner and that we as voters are smart enough to elect a true progressive and education champion in Lisa Wellman to the state Senate.

Litzow signs littering the Island

Am I the only one dismayed by the excessive number of Steve Litzow signs littering the Island? We all know Mr. Litzow is struggling to retain his seat in the state Senate, but enough already! My voting decisions are based on a candidate’s policies and positions, not their ability to spend money cluttering our roadsides with campaign signs.

What’s Litzow so afraid of?

Another day and more negative junk mail from or on behalf of Steve Litzow to recycle. What’s Litzow so afraid of? That we will discover that he’s not a “moderate.” He’s not endorsed by Gov. Jay Inslee, Tana Senn and Judy Clibborn as his ads suggest. Inslee, Senn and Clibborn endorse his opponent Lisa Wellman as does the Sierra Club, Planned Parenthood, and the Alliance for Gun Responsibility. As The Stranger so aptly put it, “moderate” Republicans like Litzow caucus with the rest of the Republicans to block good stuff like voting rights and give a platform to bad stuff like anti-tran bathroom stuff. Thanks, Steve, you helped me make my mind up. I’m voting for Lisa Wellman and can’t wait to see the end to your mail.
