Thank you, Islanders, for your support | Letter

With more than one-fifth of Mercer Island High School (MIHS) represented in the band program, our marching band has students of all personalities, backgrounds and talents. Every member brings something different to the table, yet we all have something in common: we’re proud to spend Friday nights in uniform.

This season, the band had a fantastic time putting on five dynamite shows. We started off the year with Macklemore’s “Downtown,” followed by our favorite spy tunes for a James Bond-themed homecoming later that month.

We also had the privilege of playing a Seattle-themed show with the Seattle Seahawks drumline, Blue Thunder. Later on, the band drove over the mountains to Parker Bixby’s alma mater and football powerhouse, the University of Montana, to perform a halftime show with their marching band as they took down Sacramento State. Go Griz! Finally, we finished off the season with All-Island Band Night, where we played Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” alongside the Island Middle School bands. It served as a wonderful reminder of all the talent our program has to look forward to in the coming years.

The season gave us plenty of memories, and we hope that it did the same for our audience of music and football fans alike.

Our incredible directors, band boosters and volunteers work day and night on our behalf, but none of this would be possible without a community as supportive as Mercer Island’s. In this community we find our purpose — and as long as you keep coming back, we’ll be more than happy to put on a show.

For all your support, we thank you.
