A night of funk to support Mercer Island band programs Nov. 5

Don’t miss this unique evening to support Mercer Island School District band programs

Don’t miss this unique evening to support Mercer Island School District band programs from 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center.

The celebratory evening will feature a funky mix of music, wine, beer, hors d’oeuvres and desserts, with one of a kind live and silent auction items. Tickets for this adults-only event are available in limited quantity for $85 per person.

Come experience the music of Seattle’s own DoctorfunK. Established in 1995, the band has set the standard for new soul music in the Pacific Northwest. Echoing the legendary passion of famed horn band “Tower of Power” and that “Bay Area Sound,” this 10-piece ensemble has maintained the tradition and more. Wear your funkiest attire and bring your dancing shoes.

The Mercer Island School District’s band program is the pride of the Island and serves nearly 1,000 students comprising 40 percent of the students enrolled in grades five through 12. The band instructors teach students from all six of Mercer Island’s elementary, middle and high schools. MISD students who participate in band benefit from exceptional music instruction and through their music experiences are building a strong foundation of critical thinking, creativity, social and collaboration skills for future successes.

Monies raised at this fourth annual event will support Mercer Island Schools band programming, including clinics, one-on-one support, scholarships, instrument rentals, leadership opportunities, trip support, training, community outreach and unique musical opportunities.
