Mercer Island students pedal to class for Bike to School Day

Mercer Island Police Department officers were at West Mercer Elementary on May 10 for a bike rodeo and to kick off “Bike to School Day.”

Sgt. Mike Seifert said there was a “huge turnout of bicycles that took up a large chunk of the school’s blacktop,” according to the Mercer Island Police and Emergency Management Facebook page.

May is “Bike Everywhere Month,” with another popular event, Bike Everywhere Day (aka “Bike-to-Work Day”), coming up on May 19. Mercer Island cyclists will see countless fellow commuters, and there will be a support booth (click for map) at each side the Island on the I-90 Trail.
