Watercolor Society hosts annual Open Exhibition

Fifty-six artists from nine countries and 31 US states chosen from 352 entries.

The Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS) invites the public to the 78th Annual International Open Exhibtion, April 16 to June 1 at the Mercer View Gallery of the Mercer Island Community Center, 8236 Southeast 24th St.

On display will be 56 watermedium paintings chosen from 352 entries by renowned juror/instructor Mark E. Mehaffey, American Watercolor Society-Dolphin Fellow and National Watercolor Society Signature Member.

Mehaffey says of the selection process, “It takes many views to be able to discern the sometimes subtle visual messages that artists include. Only being able to select 56 entries from the total 352 entries meant that many good paintings were not accepted.” He goes on to encourage those not accepted to “Keep on.”

On April 26 the public and media are invited to the artists awards.

Reception at the Mercer View Gallery from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. when Mr. Mehaffey will present awards up to $10,000. First place is $2,000, second $1,250 and third $750.
