Last Third Thursday Art Walk for Bassi Jones is Aug. 19
A meadow of lupines below snow-capped Mt. Rainier, a stroll along a beach path, a deep purple sunrise — framed photos from photographers Judy West and Nancy Winberg line the second-story hallway of the Bassi Jones building on Mercer Island.
The photographs will be on display during the Third Thursday Art Walk from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 19, with wine, sparkling cider and snacks served.
Though the art walk continues through October, it will be the last one for Bassi Jones this month.
"When we originally scheduled them, we felt the art walks would be more fun when there was good weather, and more people would come through during the time when we had nice evenings," said Gail Winberg, whose husband, Jay Winberg, became the owner of the Bassi Jones building — which houses seven renters — last fall after his father, the previous owner, died.
The Winbergs have participated in the art walk since May. Though the number of visitors has dwindled since then, the art walk has been a wonderful opportunity, Gail said, to invite friends, family and interested persons to view the art work of her friend and MIHS alumna, Judy West, and daughter, Nancy Winberg.
"I have been practicing art for most of my life," Nancy said. "Sharing it with people is an absolute joy."
The Bassi Jones building, which has undergone some recent renovations, is located at 7834 S.E. 32nd St.
