Islander Lisa Vian Hunter appeared in the NBC reality show, “Fashion Star,” this spring. Show producers chose Vian Hunter to be one of the 14 designers competing to become America’s next big fashion star.

The contestants have a chance to win the multi-million dollar prize by launching their collections in three of America’s largest retailers: Macy’s, H&M and Saks Fifth Avenue.

The new series, hosted and executive-produced by Elle Macpherson, and featuring celebrity mentors premiered March 13. The show will air on Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m.

Women’s wear designer Vian Hunter, 47, is a mother of two and lover of all things vintage.

Hunter says that women are desperate for gorgeous, affordable clothing made in the United States, and that’s exactly what she intends to give them.
