Former Island piano teacher Margie Balter will be playing a selection of songs from her debut CD, “Music from My Heart,” at the Seattle Borders bookstore, 1501 Fourth Ave., on Friday, June 13. The concert will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a “meet and greet” CD signing.

Since moving away from the Island, Balter has lived in Hollywood and taught actors such as Tom Cruise, Holly Hunter and Scarlett Johansson for piano film roles. She is now a well-known name among Los Angeles actors, and some of her compositions have been featured in Hollywood movies. Last fall, the pianist played a series of concerts in Pittsburgh and the greater L.A. area. She has also performed in New York and Florida. “Music from My Heart” has earned acclaim from musicians such as Taj Mahal and Thomas Newman.

A graduate of the University of Washington, Balter says she loves Seattle, which she calls “a great music town.” In addition to her performance at Borders in Seattle, Balter will play at Borders in Tacoma on Thursday, June 12. For further detail contact Nisha Arunasalam at (310) 843-0037.
