Local Voices: Conversations on Civil Liberties and Homeland Security is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Islander Middle School. Speakers will be Chris Vance, chairman of the Washington State Republican Party, Paul Lawrence, American Civil Liberties Union National Board member and Vicky Dobrin, attorney, Dobrin & Han. Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Seattle.

Children's Choir concerts are at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 4 and at 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at the Mercer Island High School theater. Tickets are $10 available at the door. The show is ``That's Entertainment.''

Maasai storyteller Joseph Lemasolai Lekuton, author of ``Facing the Lion: Growing up Maasai on the African Savanna'' will speak at 7 p.m. Monday, June 6, at the Mercer Island High School auditorium. There is no charge. Donations for ``Cows for Kids'' is appreciated.

Island Books pajama party storytime is at 7 p.m. Thursdays. June 9: Meg Lippert, ``Moonlight Magic, stories with music;'' June 23, Karen Haas, ``Dragons and Dreams.''

Book signing by Mercer Island High School freshman lacrosse player and author Sara Stern, will sign her first book ``Dragons, Song'' at 7 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Island Books.

Mercer Island High School band car wash is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Storage Court, 8501 S.E. 68th, QFC, 7823 S.E. 28th and Island Park Elementary school, 5437 Island Crest Way. Tickets are $10 to help defray costs of sending band members to perform in the Tournament of Roses Parade.

Poker tournament is noon Saturday, June 11, at the Mercerwood Shore Club, 4150 E. Mercer Way. Sign in at 11 a.m., $60 Boy-In, $30 Re-Buys/Add-On. Food and drink will be available. Mercer Island Baccalaureate, an interfaith community celebration to honor all high school seniors, is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Ave. S.E. A reception will follow. Speakers will be Matt Hasselbeck of the Seattle Seahawks and Dr. Paul Highsmith, former Mercer Island High School principal. Open to family and friends of graduates.

Free Homework Help provided by older teens from 2 to 5:45 p.m. Mondays through June 13 in the small conference room. For all students in fourth- through eighth-grades. No appointment necessary.

``Read Three, Get One Free!'' for 12- to 18-year-olds. Read three books, write three short reviews and get a new paperback book free. Books read for school count for this program. Check with the library or www.kcls.org/read3 for more information and to register.

Talk Time English Conversation Class is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. For adults of all languages. Improve your English conversation skills and meet new friends.

Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds summer reading program will begin after today. Bring your child to the library to sign up. There will be free programs, prizes and drawings as children read through the summer. Call the library for information.

League Gymnastics is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, to Aug. 24, at the Mercer Island High School gymnastics room. The cost is $375.

Boys & Girls Club

The Boys & Girls Club Spring Event: Saturday Night Fever is at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Boys & Girls Club gym. Mountains to Sound Greenway Arts Show is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12, in the I-90 Outdoor Sculpture Garden, between 77th Ave. S.E. and 80th Ave. S.E. along Sunset Highway.
