Crest Annual Plant Sale is from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, to June 3, at Crest Learning Center, 4150 86th Ave. S.E.

Scholastic Book Fair is 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26, and 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 27, in the Island Park Elementary Library. Books for all ages. Proceeds go to the Island Park PTA.

Veterans Recognition Public Art Project ``Standing Strong'' will be dedicated at 11 a.m. Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, at Mercerdale Park. Bring lunch and stay for music after the ceremonies.

Local Voices: Conversations on Civil Liberties and Homeland Security is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Islander Middle School. Speakers will be Chris Vance, chairman of the Washington State Republican Party, and Paul Lawrence, American Civil Liberties Union National Board member. Sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Seattle.

Mercer Island Baccalaureate, an interfaith community celebration to honor all high school seniors, is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Ave. S.E. A reception will follow. Speakers will be Matt Hasselbeck of the Seattle Seahawks and Dr. Paul Highsmith, former Mercer Island High School principal. Open to family and friends of graduates.

Clubs

The ProBus Club of Mercer Island will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Ave. S.E. The speaker will be Dr. Dan McDougall who spent four weeks in Indonesia after the recent tsunami and served in Serbia as a member of Northwest Medical Teams International. The public is welcome.

Sons of Norway meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Mercer Island United Methodist Church, 7070 S.E. 24th St.

Mercer Island Radio Operators meets at 7 p.m. every third Thursday of the month at the north-end fire station. It provides backup emergency communications for the Mercer Island Public Safety Department. For information, call Bill Ellis at 232-4881.

Library

Free Homework Help provided by older teens from 2 to 5:45 p.m. Mondays through June 13 in the small conference room. For all students in fourth- through eighth-grades. No appointment necessary.

``Read Three, Get One Free!'' for 12- to 18-year-olds. Read three books, write three short reviews and get a new paperback book free. Books read for school count for this program. Check with the library or www.kcls.org/read3 for more information and to register.

Talk Time English Conversation Class is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. For adults of all languages. Improve your English conversation skills and meet new friends.

Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds summer reading program will begin after June 1. Bring your child to the library to sign up. There will be free programs, prizes and drawings as children read through the summer. Call the library for information.

One-on-One Computer Training is available by appointment. The Interact Club, a group of Mercer Island students sponsored by Rotary, will provide the training. Call the library to schedule an appointment.

Classes

Weight Loss With Hypnosis is from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, to June 2, at the Boys & Girls Club. The cost is $81.

Pilates Level 1 is from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, to June 22, at the Boys & Girls Club; Level 2 is from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $62.

Boys & Girls Club

The Boys & Girls Club Spring Event: Saturday Night Fever is at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at the Boys & Girls Club gym. The 1970s band, The Afrodisiacs, will provide live dance music following dinner and an auction. The cost is $150 per couple. Crafts On Your Own for seniors is from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Tuesdays, at Covenant Shores lodge. Bring your favorite craft hobby and meet new friends. The cost is $3.50.

Trip to Secret Gardens of the Skagit is from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 8. The cost is $60. Call 236-3545 for reservations.

Mercer Island Visual Art League's Junior Art Show registration for students in kindergarten through 12th grade is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Wells Fargo Bank, 3001 78th Ave. S.E. Participants may pick up entry forms after June 1 at the bank or the Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce. Barbara Vandyke Shuman, Mercer Island artist, will have a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Mercer Island Art Gallery and Custom Frame, 2729 78th Ave. S.E. The show will continue through June.

Esther Akrish, Genny Rees and Susanne Werner will exhibit at Island House, 7810 S.E. 30th, through August 15.

Religion

Mercer Island Presbyterian Church: Super 60s & Beyond will meet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, in the Fireside Room. Guest speaker is John Hackett. Lunch will be served. Suggested donation is $5. Congregational Church of Mercer Island: High school youth group meets at noon each Sunday. Tonight: middle school youth group is from 6 to 8 p.m.; Bible study is at 7:30 p.m. and the Bible study group reading the book of Isaiah is at 7:45 p.m. Bible study group reading the book of Exodus is at 6:15 p.m. The church is at 4545 Island Crest Way.

Mercer Island Covenant Church: All are welcome at 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday for community dinner. The cost is $3 per person. Child-care is available. The church is at 3200 78th Ave. S.E.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church: Sunday services are at 8 a.m. (Rite I) and 10 a.m. (Rite II.) Children's music program and adult education are at 11:30 a.m. The old office building will be remodeled into the Phil Lorenzen Teen Center. Usable furniture and appliances are solicited. Christian Science Church: The Christian Science Reading Room is temporarily located at the Christian Science Church at Island Crest Way and S.E. 47th Street. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church: Worship services are Sunday at 8 a.m. in the chapel and at 10:15 a.m. in the sanctuary, with Holy Communion at both services.
