Youth Theatre Northwest is transforming Mercer Island’s Island Crest Park into a haunted forest. For two weeks, beginning Oct. 22, a troupe of actors will lead tours through the park’s trails in an outdoor performance called “Alone in the Dark: Mercer Island’s Haunted Forest.”

The 45-minute guided tour and performance — through shadowy and eerie trails, under the forest’s dark canopy — will take place rain or shine. Performances run at various times between 6 and 9 p.m., Thursday through Sunday from Oct. 22 to Nov. 1.

YTN is seeking volunteers to help with the event. Volunteers may contact Volunteer Coordinator Kristyne Site at info@mercerislandshauntedforest.com. For more information, visit the event Web site at www.mercerislandshauntedforest.com.

YTN Halloween costume sale and costume clinic

Youth Theatre Northwest’s annual costume sale and clinic will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 17 and 24. The event will feature a workshop with instruction from a professional costume designer for those who want to make their own costumes. Parents and children, ages 9 and up, are welcome. The cost is $20 per costume made. For more information or to sign up, call (206) 232-4145, ext. 100.
