Regional Animal Services of King County to waive late fees in April for pet licenses

Pet owners on Mercer Island and much of King County can take advantage of a one-month “license amnesty period” in April and bring their expired pet licenses up to date or purchase new tags for animals not currently licensed without facing late fees or other penalties.

Islander Maria ‘Marika’ Frank Abrams, an artist of the renowned ‘Northwest School’ style of art and whose inspiration for her abstract, hauntingly beautiful images was often debated, died peacefully on March 29 at her Mercer Island home. She was 88.

King County Metro Transit is facing a $75 million funding gap as its temporary funds from the state are set to expire. Due to that gap, Metro is looking at eliminating up to 65 routes, including several on Mercer Island.

Most kids are taught that the reward for volunteering is the knowledge and pride in doing a good thing. Sometimes, though, there is a reward for doing those good things. On Wednesday, March 27, 15,000 students from across Washington descended on Key Arena for such a reward. The first ever We Day in the United States was held on Wednesday, featuring acts such as Jennifer Hudson, Nelly Furtado, Martin Sheen, Martin Luther King III and a surprise performance by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
