A winter storm with winds reported as high as 60 mph at North Bend slammed into Western Washington on Dec. 17 and 18, leaving 100,000 PSE customers without power. Mercer Island’s South end was particularly hard hit, but neighborhoods throughout the Island lost power due to downed trees and power lines. The City of Mercer Island briefly opened emergency shelters, but power was mostly restored by noon on Saturday.
The city mobilized crews to clear roads of trees and debris where PSE indicated it safe to do so. Crews were also set to spread deicer on Island roads due to expected freezing temperatures.
PSE reminds customers to stay clear of downed power lines as they may be energized and to report downed power lines to PSE at 1-888-225-5773.
