An Island resident has announced he will run for the King County Council seat long held by Jane Hague.

Richard E. Mitchell, will be in the running against Seattle Port Commissioner John Creighton, from Kirkland, as well as Hague.

Mitchell, an attorney with Summit Law Group, was legal counsel for Gov. Chris Gregoire from 2005 to 2008. Mitchell was also appointed to the King County Housing Authority Board in May 2010 by King County Executive Dow Constantine.

Hague, from Bellevue, was first elected to the Council in 1993 and has only faced one challenger since then.
