Accident at 86th and 40th after car turns into oncoming traffic

A collision occurred when an elderly woman failed to yield to oncoming traffic while making a left turn around 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, at the intersection of 86th Avenue and S.E. 40th Street.

Commander Leslie Burns with the Mercer Island Police Department said the woman was taken to the hospital with a laceration on her arm.

Burns said it was a glancing blow type of accident. There were no other injuries. The street was blocked off and police directed traffic until the accident scene was cleared at 12:30 p.m.
