On Tuesday, Jan. 11, U.S. Congress member David Reichert honored the Mercer Island High School marching band for its recent trip to London to perform in the New Year’s Day Parade.

Congressman Reichert commended the band on their “prestigious engagements” and the community of Mercer Island for its support of the arts, band director Parker Bixby for his efforts and MISD Superintendent Gary Plano for his support, as well as the City of Mercer Island.

“This is a huge honor for our high school marching band and the entire Mercer Island community,” said Plano in a press release. “I couldn’t be more proud.”

The band is already preparing for the 2012 appearance at the Rose Parade.
