The Mercer Island band logo designed to commemorate the band’s upcoming appearance in the 2012 Rose Parade has been released. The design was the joint effort of band director Parker Bixby and Greg Anderegg, along with the Tournament of Roses Association and the pin’s manufacturer.
The Tournament of Roses Association had to approve designs that the band leaders here created, particularly the representation of the Rose Parade trademark. But the association was flexible.
The logo represented on the lapel pin is slightly different because of the pin’s small size. That design includes gray around the rose and no trademarks.
The parade committee allowed the trademark to be eliminated only in this instance.
For everything other than the pin, the rose logo had to return to its traditional Tournament of Roses form with the white around the rose and the two trademarks. Bixby specifically asked to have the Washington state outline in the design. While in London for the New Year’s Day parade last January, the band was mistakenly referred to as the band from Washington, D.C., or the band from the nation’s capital.Contact Mercer Island Reporter Staff Reporter Staff at email@example.com.
