A Mercer Island attorney has been charged with threatening to kill a Seattle Municipal Court judge.

The Seattle Times and The Seattle Weekly reported that 40-year-old John C. Siegel is accused of felony harassment. He was booked into the King County Jail on Friday night. Bail is set at $1.5 million.

Siegel appeared before Judge Kim Kondo on March 10, on an unrelated assault charge. The probable-cause statement says that when the judge set a court date, Siegel told her he would not show up. The judge then raised his bail. When Siegel tried to leave the courtroom, he was taken into custody.

According to the probable-cause statement, Siegel reportedly told a bail company employee who paid his bail that he would kill the judge.

Siegel has an office at 7785 Sunset Highway on Mercer Island. He has active status with the Washington State Bar Association.
