Citizens interested in serving on the Mercer Island School District Board of Directors can access an application at the district’s Web site.

The seat being vacated by board president Lisa Strauch Eggers needs to be filled. Interested candidates would serve as an interim. The new member could, of course, run for the seat in the fall election.

The application states that a School Board member should expect an average 18-20 hours a month for preparation, participation and attendance at meetings.  A list of potential interview questions are available and include why a candidate is interested in serving and what he/she believes makes a board effective.

Legislative representative for the PTA Council, Aleta Finnila, has indicated that she will apply for the position and more than likely run for the seat. Finnila has two children in the district; one at West Mercer Elementary and one at Islander Middle School.

The deadline to apply is Friday, April 29, at 4:30 p.m. Applications must be turned in to the superintendent’s office.

For more information, call the superintendent’s office at (206) 236-3300 or board vice president Pat Braman at (206) 232-1551.
