Traffic engineers to test new smarter highway signs on westbound I-90
April 19, 2011 · 2:56 PM
Testing on new electronic signs on westbound I-90 between Bellevue and Seattle will start on Wednesday, April 20. The traffic technology is intended to increase safety and reduce collisions. A series of test sequences that include symbols and letters will appear on the new electronic signs in preparation to activate the westbound signs later in the spring.
As part of the SR-520/I-90 Active Traffic Management Project, the signs will display the speed limit and lane status, or alert drivers to slow down or change lanes if there are collisions or backups. For more information, go to www.smarterhighways.com.
