Students in the Mercer Island High School marching band had hoped to collect over 5,000 cans of food and nonperishable items during the Can-a-Thon event. On Saturday, April 16, total donations exceeded 8,300 pounds.

The event was led by student organizer Briauna Azer and the Band Student Advisory, with marching band members participating for the benefit of the Mercer Island Youth and Family Services Food Pantry and other local food banks.
