The Mercer Island Fire Department responded to an electrical fire at Stopsky's Delicatessen on 78th Avenue S.E. on Sunday morning, May 22.
The fire started underneath the espresso machine around 7:30 a.m.
"The people at the scene tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher and did a pretty good job of trying to stop it, but needed additional help from the fire department," said Battalion Chief Les Kenworthy.
Three Mercer Island units came to the scene and remained for about 30 minutes.
Damage was minimal, but Stopsky's will be closed temporarily this week as the espresso machine is replaced and extensive cleaning is completed. The restaurant will open on Monday, May 30, at 7 a.m.
