Mercer Island trash rates to increase 6 percent

Allied Waste Services, which contracts with the city of Mercer Island for trash, recycling and yard waste collection, has notified customers that rates will increase by an average of 6.1 percent on July 1. The rate increase corresponds with the 2009 contract between the City of Mercer Island and Allied. Customers were notified by mail last week.

The company encourages customers who wish to save money on trash collection costs to consider downsizing their collection carts. Customers are encouraged to call (206) 682-9730.
